The classic species of Tradescantia are often grown as a houseplant. Handsome 2 in. long greenish silver leaves with a generous stripe of aubergine down the center. This one is incredibly vigorous and will easily fill a planter or scramble over and down a wall as a groundcover. Plant in shade to part sun in rich fertile evenly moist soil.
The Gem Series is a recent introduction of an assortment of colors. 8 to 10 in. grass-like leaves topped by small trumpet shaped flowers grouped together in a globe shape.
