Growing to a height of 3 - 4 feet in one season. Indigenous to Peru and Ecuador, where it is called "Lulu" and the little fruits are eaten fresh and made into beverages. The spectacular deep olive colored leaves can grow to an amazing 18 inches long and almost as wide, having large rounded scalloped margins. The new leaves are born covered with a lovely purple pubescence. When they mature the burgundy leaf veins become more pronounced and are studded with little purple thorns. Use in borders or containers to achieve an exciting bold effect.
